Mobility for rural, low-populated areas in the region of northern Denmark, "Plustur"

Industry Partner: Nordjyllands Trafikselskab (Regional Transport Authority of Northern Denmark)

Mobility service offers have to be balanced with demands. As rural Denmark is seeing more people moving out and into the cities, the expenses of offering traditional public transportation in these areas have become too costly. Flexible, on-demand transportation services like "Plustur" is a way to accommodate mobility demands in rural, low-populated areas. It adresses the first/last mile problem by shuttling passengers to or from the nearest transport hub and in this way create connections to the main lines of public transportation. PhD student Maria Kjærup will be working together with Nordjyllands Trafikselskab to evaluate and improve the "Plustur" mobility service. It is a joint collaboration with other researchers from Aalborg University and within the DiCyPS project.
